I was cleaning out the tank and I noticed that my male is very, very thin. I thought it was just because he was a male and I was comparing him to the female. I thought I'd ask, just in case. Here's a picture I snapped of him from above: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/closetpenguin/My%20Babies/DSC07525-1.jpg .Is he oddly thin or is it just normal? He eats just fine and has no other problems, except maybe boredom, but I'm not quite sure how to cure that when it comes to fish. He's not lonely, for he has three female companions. He hasnt gotten any of them pregnant. I'm also worried about this. Is he okay?

Also, how much longer until my Dalmation Molly gives birth? I'm wondering because I'm going up North for the weekend and I dont want her giving birth while I'm not at home. Here's her picture: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/closetpenguin/My%20Babies/DSC07526.jpg .

Thank you in advance.

Yes, he is abnormally thin. If he is eating but is not gaining weight, he likely has an internal parasite. There are a number of products available, usually in the form of medicated fish food - get some and treat him. Also, you should feed him some really high quality food with lots of protein; frozen meaty foods are best, like brine shrimp, blood worms, white mosquito larvae, mysis shrimp - these will help him put on weight.

Your Molly looks close to giving birth. How long has is been since her last batch or since you got her? It usually takes about a month. She doesn't look quite ready to burst yet, but she may over the weekend. Stock up on java moss or on silk plants for the fry to hide in.

he does look skinny, a rapid weight loss but still eating is usually a sign of internal parasites. there are several anti-internal bacteria meds on the market, i've used Interpet No.9 with success. it may be worth giving that a shot.

It certainly does look like he's wasting away. It is probably something internal that you could treat with meds. It could also be TB, which you won't have success treating unless you are very aggressive with antibiotics.

Ditto to Zoe's answer, looks like internal parasites to me too. Some medicated food will most likely solve the problem
