What makes you think its not in a certain place. They pick their spot with special care.

My dog has certain areas of the yard where she poos and a friends bull mastiff will only go in the woods at the back of the yard (which is a good thing, would you want to step in that pile?)

my guinea pigs always poo in one section my dog poos near side of house same place maybe the poo looks random cos lots of dogs picked different place to poo

Many of them do go in a certain place. Especially if you trained them well and took them out to the same place in the beginning. My Maltese does.

They don't, well, not all of them anyway.
Sheep tend to deposit their pebbles everywhere. Horses (mares) tend to make a spreading pile, which expands over an area to spread their scent to available stallions. Stallions tend to make piles which get higher rather than wider and covering all mare piles in their area.
Our pig tended to try to deposit all her piles outside her pen area (to avoid fouling her walking areas).
The dogs tend to try to put their piles where no other dog has ever gone before.

rhino poachers in africa wait by the dung heap until the rhino return as they will not just poo anywhere, i wish they did, they'd be harder to find
