So I have been sacked from my job for Gross misconduct I dont think or feel that this is the right way to sack me but because of my length of service I cannot do much.

I was sacked for 2 things they are

1. I overpaid myself for 0.5 of an hour which equates to £3.00
2. I claimed 3 days as holiday when I was sick which everyone else did throughout the company my manager asked me if I had this approved I said no removed it from my wages which I can also prove and they are saying that I claimed it.

The whole company are saying that I stole loads of money and I am a thief etc etc and I really didn't think that I had done anything wrong ( well I did but it was human error nothing more) if I was going to do this I would do it and make it worth my while !!

I cannot do anything against him but I want my name cleared and wondered if anyone knows if this would be a case for slander ??

Sounds to me like you were railroaded to cover the ar*se of the person who actually did the stealing?

Either that... or they just needed an excuse to get rid of you and you gave it to them in the form of any little thing you did wrong or in error, minor or not....

Sounds like you are in the UK? I don't know the legal system there so?

Ask a lawyer...

Here at least... An empolyer can;t say why you were let go, only that you were and that you would obviously not be welcomed back. That bothers some potential employers and not others so as far as your name cleared... By whom and why?

I don't think you have a claim for slander. People may be gossipping and exaggerating how much you stole, but the basic fact is, by overpaying yourself you really were being dishonest and stealing. Even if it was a mistake, the two incidents together give the appearance of dishonesty and slander can only be claimed if you've done nothing at all to give that impression. If they were telling people you were using drugs at work, that would be different, but because there is some fact, even if it's been over-exaggerated or taken out of context, there's no slander.
