I reckon with a bit of luck, Sri Lanka have a great chance of winning this year. They possess arguably the greatest opener ever to play ODI cricket in Sanath Jayasuriya. He can devastate attacks all around the world, and when he is in full swing nobody can stop him. His fellow opener Upal Tharanga and the captain Mahela Jayawardene provide good support, and Kumar Sangakkara is a classy batsman who just happens to be one of the best keepers in world cricket as well. The Sri Lankan bowling attack will trouble even the best. Chaminda Vaas is vastly experienced in one-day cricket, Lasith Malinga has the beginnings of a fantastic pace bowler, and Muttiah Muralitharan is the second highest career wicket taker in both test and ODI cricket. To add to that, the Sri Lankan squad includes good backup bowlers in Farveez Maharoof and Malinga Bandara, and a good middle order featuring the likes of Tillakaratne Dilshan and Russel Arnold. I think Sri Lanka have a very realistic chance of winning the CWC 2007, and I would love to see it happen.

I would never forget when the Indians burned down the stadium and the Sri Lankan flag, 1996 semi finals.
That made me outta control pissed agaisnt all Indians.

Since cricket is a game of uncertainties as has been proved on number of occasions, it is not at all possible to predict the winners of a tournament well in advance.
The final outcome will depend upon how the teams perform during the tournament. The team which plays to its potential consistently stand to win the trophy.
As it stands now, any of the top 8 team can win the world cup.

Sri Lanka is the second best team in the world right now. They have players like Sanath and Kumar in excellent form. They have great bowling combination in their team with Vaas, Murali and few youngsters.
I feel that if their 1-2 batsman like Mahela come back into form which they typically do, they will be in finals against Australia or SA and who knows after that.

If you seen the match against India how they played.... I would say yes Sri Lanka will give great fight to win the world cup. But they have to meet tought teams like Australia and S.A., WI, Ierland (kidding...) SRI LANKA will bring the cup to Asia.

Scientifically I have gone through the teams in the world cup to pick a winner! Here goes - Teams who won't win the world cup
India - it is outside the sub continent and they never win unless on sub continent
SA - Not got a decent spinner
Pakistan - No openers and too reliant on Asif to get wickets
England - Top order is not settled and our tail starts at 7
That leaves Windies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Oz
Surely no team can lose 3 games on the trot at home and then win overseas so Oz are out.
The hosts have never won - so that is WI out.
You can't expect a team to not qualify for the finals of a tri series and then win the world cup - so NZ are out
That leaves us with Sri Lanka! Fine top order, the best spinner and some accurate seamers with malinga slinging them in at the death with Jaysuriya's darts. I am off to the bookies to back them!

In spite of their loss to Eng. I will dare to keep aussie with the best four semi finalists along with SA.
Your comments about Pakistan is absolute while india is actually had won only one title since 1999 & they lacks the consistency. Thats definately leaves them off unless Dhoni/Ganguly keeps on firing from all the corners but still their poor bowling to defend the total is not enough to win the WC.
Well..WI Pitch going to support the pace bowlers but Murali can turn things around on the desktop & facing spinners is always problem for SA whom cudnt get rid of Shewag/Sachin during the ICC Knock Semis 2002.
Well...Sri Lanka ofcoz flying high to reach the finals but whatz next?
Meantime if Pakistan can capitalise with their openers then they have a good middle order.

srilankans are not at there best for now.they lost the series with india for now where the performance of the team was not good in any of streams.they dont even stand for a chance in worldcup semifinals.maybe india or southafrica would be one of the teams wining the worldcup 2007
