Yes a tree can be a pet...one of the definitions of "pet" is "a thing particularly cherished" so if your tree is particularly cherished it is a "pet". Conkers otherwise known as the seed of a horse chestnut tree if planted will turn into a horse chestnut tree and provide you with many more conkers to conk with- but be careful both the seed and the tree are poisonous and it is also easy for the uninitiated to confuse horse chestnut seed with ordinary chestnuts.

Of course, studies have been done that prove plants react to physical stimuli, so you can treat it like a pet if you want to and will likely be rewarded for doing do.
We have several plants that we treat differently and have nutured from seed.
As for the conker, yes, if it germinates it will eventually grow into a conker tree - but they take a very long time to grow.
For the person who does not know what a conker is - it is a Horse Chestnut.
