The north was against slavery and the south needed it for their economy. Though the north didn't care much more for African Americans, the south did enslave them.

Other than slavery the North was more industrial while the south's economy was agriculture.
This is actually the main reason why the South was fighting to keep slavery because they thought once the slaves were freed they'd lose a cheap labor force and also wouldn't have enough labor.
This is also a key reason why the North won. With their industrial base they were able to produce the weapons and equipment needed for the war.

It must be the season for hs history exams. You are about the millionth asker of this question. It helps if you study your textbook and listen in class...really.
The major differences between North and South before the Civil War were economic and population driven (more population in the North, more wealth, more industrialization and manufacturing capacity). The major political differences were that - because of the economic and population disparity - the South was concerned to preserve States Rights so they would not be trampled upon by the majority.

Quite frankly, the North didn't give a damn about the slaves.
There was a lot of pressure on Abe and the boys to end slavery, in part by the Northern industrialists who thought the slaves would move north and take very low paying jobs.

way of life was totally different. The north had raw material and factories. The south had cash crops and the slaves picked all the crops. The slaves did all the work in the south

The north was more driven by manufacturing and business in urban settings. The south was more driven by farming staple crops on a larger level. Both had small farms. Check this page out:

The biggest difference was that the South's economy was
almost completely dependent on agricultural slave labor while the
North was busy industrializing itself.
