Yes, you can work at 14 with a work permit but my daughter can tell you that it is really hard to find someone who will hire you at 14. She hasn't had any luck yet. Your counselor should have the paper work at your school.

I'm not sure if it's up to individual states or if it's federally mandated, but in CA you have to be 15. Plus, you have to have a note from your parents and from your school that allows you to work. Now, if it's for a friend or relative that owns a store, I think you can pretty much get away with it.
