Though I understand that people need their religion to make their lives make sense, why is it that when answering a question they must quote the Bible, or express their own personal beliefs? Instead of addressing the question, they address their own personal views? Is there no objectivity? Or, am I wrong, and there is only one way to express yourself, through religious belief?

I'm glad someone brought this up. I can never understand people who quote religiously from the bible. It is as though it is the only way they can Embrace God or "spread God's word", but sometimes, they forget that there are people like you and I who just want a personal response and not something that has been picked up from the bible.
Indeed its is limiting. I believe that the essense of God in himself is not to retrain you yet people who quote and unquote from the bible just simply chain themselves in a world full of generalities. And the irony is, they only choose what fits the occasion, so it becomes hypocritical to quote from the bible. i.e I think there's this quote in the bible that says a woman has to serve or something to that effect her husband. And in we believe in equality of the sexes now. Yet a woman could quote endlessly from the bible and believe in equality. It simply dilutes religion itself.
And sometimes, people forget, the bible was written ages ago. Things has changed now, quoting from the bible would equate to not having evolved since time. Its like using the primal method of creating fire, when you've got a lighter. Of course, I'm not saying there's nothing that precedes time in the bible, i.e good morals, like its never right to kill.
In short, I agree with you. It limits expression. Just like in the same way people use quotes from some great philosophers like Nietszche or Freud and not even know what it means, just to sound smart.

Answers was created because people love giving their advice and opinions to other people!
But that wasn't answering your question, was it? I think there are certain levels of moral "awareness" that people can achieve. I think many need to see things written down, such as lawbooks and religious texts. They will quote these to offer proof that they are 'right'. What some people don't understand is that there isn't a universal 'right'. These are fluid concepts that no document or belief can back this up all of the time. It is more difficult, though, to define your own theories, than it is to accept what is spelled out for you by someone else. Maybe that's another reason people choose the latter.
Long story short, I agree with you. There are many people that lack the capacity for objective reason. Then again, is it really possible for anyone to view anything objectively. After all, every bit of information we take in is filtered through thought and learning processes that are shaped and defined through our own values and beliefs. Hmmm.

I know what you're saying. I've run into that alot here. Both from people who answer in bible quotes, or in questions that I answer with a valid observation, and the bible quote is picked as best from the asker. Can you say AIYEEEE?
I've come to believe that the people who feel the need to resort to religious reference rather than actual observation or reasoning simply are of the belief that their religion IS the answer to everything.
But they aren't the only ones. Have you ever gone into the pet section of yahoo answers? The fanatical repetition of "Don't breed your pet even if it's purebred, and spay and neuter your animals because your animal can't possibly be worthy of reproducing." My lord, if people listened to them, there would be no new puppies, EVER, of any breed.
So, fanatical belief is rampant in all walks. Best to ignore it and move on.

it truly is a very deep question. Language limits more beneficial than our expression, it limits our comprehension of our ideas and our ecosystem. We use words to communicate over with gadgets, ideas, emotions, etc and in order to comprehend and organise how gadgets and issues relate to different gadgets and issues. yet even as this makes it more straightforward to comprehend the failings that are occurring round us, words can not seize the essence of an merchandise, a theory or a feeling. which means our translations into words are poor, they don't actual exhibit the unique journey. a number of existential philosophers have reported that the hollow between reality and the words we use to certain it is the reason of pressure in people. because adults maximum in additional than a number of circumstances imagine and comprehend issues in a language like way, after we are not waiting to certain some thing in language, that is, even as there aren't any words to certain or present platforms through which to comprehend certain issues, we sense at a loss for words and tense, like we are unable to make sense of the international. So in this kind, language impacts the way we comprehend and respond to our reviews (our concept techniques), as well because the potential we ought to certain them.

The purest form of 'religion' is a personal relationship with the Divine. People who reference their own experience or belief hopefully are the ones that understand this.
They aren't telling any one their way is best, rather saying they have found one that works for them. (not always true...not a perfect world)
And if you ask PEOPLE what else can they do but reply with what they think and from where they are 'at ' in their life???.....ask God first.

Amen to that!
I will ask a question about a book or a poem and someone responds with "God Loves You." Well, you know what? I know that. I know God loves me, but please answer my question. If I wanted to talk about God, I'd be in the religion section. But I'm not. I'm in the Books section, or Poetry, or Relationships, or Food or whatever....
