"You... get the needle and thread, bring it here, now watch" Then..... "Go find a spare button and sew it on the inside of the shirt, like I did for a spare."
" "Give" a man a fish and he will eat today ; "Teach" a man to fish and he will always eat".

You should always be flattered when someone else asks you to do something, as long as it is not just them being lazy. Everyone in life has things they are good and even great at, maybe this person thinks you have an extraordinary ability to sew buttons. I am not aware of this as a sexual innuendo-but I am not sure of the context and relationship. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you-sew away-and have a great day!

With the exception of those who don't see well, I teach them how, so they can sew on a button, the next time.

I almost immediately feel used. Like, why can't you do it yourself, it's not hard and everyone should learn how to do things for themselves. Then I feel bad b/c they're just asking for help and if I were a good person I wouldn't feel so standoffish about it.

Only do half of the work, i.e., thread the needle and then get him started.
It's all about "enabling" others....
