there are multiple "combining team" cartoons / courses ... the single you're asking about is Voltron. ... there have been even diverse variations of it. the unique one with the more beneficial animal-like lions, and yet another with more beneficial mechanical-style lions. little question you'll be able to locate the finished sequence on DVD through now.
