Use a swiffer for most stuff, but for bigger stuff lightly spray a mix of vinegar and water (1 part vinegar, 3 parts water) on the floor and swiffer. Use same mix with a cloth for stuck on spots.

I am in the cleaning business and here is our secret!
We use swiffer but we do not buy those expensive replacements.
We buy this cleaning cloth off the internet. You have to buy in packages of 5 but they are only like $3 bucks a piece. I have ordered them and use them on everything, especially cleaning windows and clean mirrors. They are made out of tiny fibers. They are guaranteed not to scratch and all you do is rinse the cloth under water, wring it out and wipe ANY surface with no streaks or scratch. Use em over and over. I have not thrown one away yet!
I am sold on this ...I encourage you to try it out….hope this helps…Steve

Generally just sweep them with a soft brush. If there's anything that won't come off (e.g. dried on mud) then use a damp cloth to remove it (or a mop, if it's over a large area, but make sure it's only slightly damp, not dripping wet).

You can pretty much swiffer any floor but carpet. If you need a quick re-finish get an appropriately colored gloss. If you need a long-term re-finish, I would suggest hiring a professional, because they would need to be heavy-duty sanded, stained, and glossed.
