Yes it is a substitute to help people get off heroine only then you have to be weened of that as well and not easy at that I only knew of this about 2yrs ago cause I was telling people I was taking it only NO I was taking metatone which is a tonic to help build you up so that was how I got to know about it no wonder I was getting strange looks. All of this is so sad and don't think we will ever know the truth and even if it does come out there will always be speculation, like I answered last night 2 young lives gone and one little baby to grow up with all of this to follow her around for the rest of her life it is so very sad.

Yes, methadone is used in tratement of heroin addicts. It is also a pain killer, however, very difficult to get a doctor to perscribe it. Yes, people can get high on methadone, (if taken as perscribed for legitimate pain, only defts the pain, you are not going to get high). Do I think Howard had anything to do with Ms. Smith taking Methodone? Yes, I sure do! Is Howard responsible for Ms. Smiths' death? We must wait and see

Methodone is a drug that rehab centers use to quickly break someone's addiction to a substance-- pain killers, for instance. However, for as hastefully as methodone gets somone off their poison, the methodone becomes their NEW poison, instantly addictive, and can take years to get off of. Truth be told, there's no easy way to quit any drug; I went cold turkey on smoking, and won my battle; I did the same thing with alcohol, once I started seeing signs of addiction there, too. I have an addictive personality, as do many of my friends. It seems most everyone I know these days is in rehab and taking methodone for one thing or another.
But, I don't blame them for their faults-- no one's perfect by any means-- but I'm at least glad they're trying to take control of their lives from the things that consumed their heart's and ate away at their souls. They're slowly becoming the people I knew again...
It's not a religious thing for me, not by a long shot, but it's still the way I see it.

Methadone is a rigorously well-tested medication that is safe and efficacious for the treatment of narcotic withdrawal and dependence. For more than 30 years this synthetic narcotic has been used to treat opioid addiction. Heroin releases an excess of dopamine in the body and causes users to need an opiate continuously occupying the opioid receptor in the brain. Methadone occupies this receptor and is the stabilizing factor that permits addicts on methadone to change their behavior and to discontinue heroin use.
Taken orally once a day, methadone suppresses narcotic withdrawal for between 24 and 36 hours. Because methadone is effective in eliminating withdrawal symptoms, it is used in detoxifying opiate addicts. It is, however, only effective in cases of addiction to heroin, morphine, and other opioid drugs, and it is not an effective treatment for other drugs of abuse. Methadone reduces the cravings associated with heroin use and blocks the high from heroin, but it does not provide the euphoric rush. Consequently, methadone patients do not experience the extreme highs and lows that result from the waxing and waning of heroin in blood levels. Ultimately, the patient remains physically dependent on the opioid, but is freed from the uncontrolled, compulsive, and disruptive behavior seen in heroin addicts.

Methodone is a a medication use to help people from the withdrawls of narcotics, such as heroin. While methodone is a narcotic all on its own. It is also used as a pain killer. I don't think Howard had anything to do with it. It would already be investigated if he did.
