I just read some answers relating to question 'What is diversity and why do we need it' or something along those lines. One guy stated that diversity is just a nice, politically correct way of dealing with immigration and that we would all be happy if we lived in our own countries. In essence he was saying that immigration is what has ruined Britain.

Is he right? What do you think?

I don't think it is immigration that is the problem but the clash of so many different opinions and as a highly developed country we all want to have our own way and politically its impossible for everyone to be catered for. We would still have problems if the country was all English but we have more because we are accepted many new diversities to the country which also need to be included.

He is talking bo****ks.

Britain has had emigration since the Celts wondered this was about 10k years back. Each group has borough new ideas and new ways. For instance the beer that is so British is based on hops - brought by the dutch in 17th c. Britain's favourite food - the curry (say no more). The house brick - dutch. the English language - from lower Denmark and Holland - want more?

The whole thing about PC is just to duck out of the real issues with a neat sound bite.

Now if you want to see a country spoilt by emigration just look at the USA - I bet the North American natives feel it has been spoit by all those Europians

Diversity is a good thing. People diversifiy their portfolios. Why? Because if you have all your eggs in one basket and the basket goes to crap, then you're left with a big mess! Ok...that was not my best metaphor. Hehe.

Why would we NOT want to learn the best things that each culture has to offer? To not capitalize on those resources would be the biggest mistake we could make.

Oh, and what ruined Britian happened long ago through intolerance of religious diversity. Kickin the pilgrims out...good luck for the USA though!

I agree with Denise D, as immigration can be a good thing to our economy, as it provides businesses with workers for the jobs, which the people in this country don't necessary like to do or would want to do. Eg; working at a strawberry field, picking strawberrys.
It's just the governments way of dealing with this topic, that has ruined the country, as well as the few illegal immigration people who live here are also to blame as they spread poverty, and increase crime.

Totally agree with Denise B,
Immigration can be positive if people are bringing something to the country, but as it stands at the moment due to how the government have dealt with immigration in the last 10 years it has left people like myself who are born and bred in this country to suffer in the circumstances I am for mistakes the government now realise they have made in the past

He's right... and he's also wrong. Diversity comes in many forms, ethnic origin being only one of them. There's nothing wrong with immigration, so long as it is legal immigration, and controlled. England has gotten itself into trouble by allowing too many Muslims into their country. They did so to have a supply of cheap labor. Unfortunately, too many Muslims were allowed to immigrate and soon there weren't enough jobs for all the immigrants. This led to riots and unrest.

Also, unfortunately, illegal immigration is causing the U.S. to just now begin to experience the first throes of civil unrest. If our government doesn't secure our southern border with Mexico, citizens will have to do the job themselves. AND, unlike England which has strict gun laws, the US constitution has a second amendment that guarantees the right of its citizens to own firearms. And believe, there are many of us who are armed, ready and eager to stop this Mexican invasion.

The best place on earth to live is one's own native country. Diversity, artificially created by encouraging immigration leads to disharmony in the society.

that person is persuing a topic with no point. we will never be without immigration, it is as old as time. The Brittish way of life is disapearing and English is a dying language.
Furthermore, if everyone stayed in their own countries just to be polite, the few immigrants who did travel would probably be killed just because the natives feared what they did not understand and didn't accept what was different. when you ignore other cultures, you're only feeding your own ignorance and the darkness of the past will repeat itself. Let us NOT promot genocide.

People who think like this should be banned from emigrating.
To the Costa del Crime, the Algarve, Toscana, Umbria and Australia.
Any immigrant to Spain should be forced to learn Spanish, to Portugal, Portuguese, to Toscana and Umbria, Italian and to Australia, Strine- with a question mark at the end of course?
