By standing next to or touching the radio, you act as an aerial. This can be corrected by carefully fine tuning and/or repositioning the aerial. If all that fails, you are in a poor reception area so to help things along, I would open out a coat hanger and tape it to the existing aerial.
The latter worked fine for me although doesn't look attractive.

Your hand and body is acting as an extension to the internal aerial and conducting the signal. Move the radio to where it can get a clearer signal or run a wire from the radio aerial to a better place

The reason is that your body is enhancing the arial and therefore improving the reception when you are touching it. All I can really recommend is getting a radio with a more precise tuning process perhaps with a digital read out.

In a way everyone so far has been correct. It sounds like your set is missing an earth (or has a bad one) on the aerial. Your body is acting as a "Ground Plain" and so helping to enhance the reception. Open up the set and have a look yourself or get someone to have a look for you.

You standing by it or touching it is acting as a large aerial for it. Once you move away, it's 'aerial' has gone and it looses signal. Buy another decent aerial for it or lay the current one you have for it out better. It should cover approx 3m in two perpendicular lines. E.g. run it down your wall and along the floor in equal lengths.

I sounds like it is using you as an Ariel, if it has one check to make sure it is connected securely, if it does not get a few meters of wire and attach it to the radio, tape will probably do, and with luck your problem will be solved.

It's using you as an antenna, redirect it's own or get a better one... yeah, it's using you.
