I mean, so many people these days seem to depend on things being easy, and if something isn't, it's not worth doing or trying. When did we get so lazy?

"Give me convenience, or give me death!" I know where you are coming from. I can try to answer that by saying, my mother's generation. No, I am not shifting the blame onto someone else's shoulders, but there was a noticeable difference between my grandmother (she had a garden, she pickled/preserved, baked) and my mother (she shopped at the supermarket). Both had houses with back yard gardens. My grandmother moved from a rural to an urban environment. My mother just adapted to the urban environment. My theory in a nutshell - when the shift from the countryside to the urbanized environment occurred (1950s).
p.s. I too am an urban dweller.
