4 answers

SA = 4 * pi * r^2

r = diameter/2
d = 2160, so r = 1080

Now just plug in the numbers and do the calculation.

per www.math.com, the formula for the surface area of a sphere is = 4πr^2

The diameter of the moon is 2160 miles; the radius is half of that, or 1080 miles.
4 * π * 1080^2
= 4,665,600 * π
= 14,649,984 square miles.

Hope that helps.

Surface area of a sphere is
SA = 4pir^2
so 4pi(2160/2)^2

Surface area = 4πr² = 4π x 1080² miles²
Surface area = 14,649,984 miles² and this is closest answer to 14,660,000 miles²
