Carburator dirty/gummed, coil not sparking properly or the fuel mixture is too rich or lean.

i used to work on stihl power units and a major problem you don't think about is the exhaust being plugged. if it has been in storage the dirt dobbers will build nest in there. or another option is that it has a screen over the exhaust outlet of the muffler and it is plugged with excess oil. the best way to prevent this is to check your manufacturers fuel mixture recommendations and mix strictly by it. good luck

If the fuel in the tank ever dried -up and there wasn't any stabilizer in it , then the carb is probably gummed -up and should be at least cleaned; but better yet it should have a kit put in it to restore the fuel pumping action. The fuel filter in the tank, on the end of the fuel hose should also be replaced.

It could be the piston rings. If it is a Poulan they are noted for having weak cylinder walls. When they get low on compression they will not start. Pull the starter cord slowly and feel the compression, it should be short but definate "thumps". If it pulls easily and smooth it is probably low on compression. If that is the case, the motor needs to be taken apart and the rings replaced. If you can't do it yourself it is probably best to buy a new one.

I would clean or replace the plug even if it looks okay. To test the magneto, take the plug out and lay it on the block and try to start with the plug wire connected. You should see a spark. If you hold the plug while starting you will get zapped.

Might also be a clogged air filter. They tend to hide some of these in the molded parts, easy to miss.

fuel or electrical... fuel is there but the mix (air/fuel) not getting to the combustion chamber (carbeurator/fuel line is clogged/restricted) or the voltage isn't getting to the plug (magneto gone or plug wire broken down so electricity doesn't flow through it) or you have a bum plug... it happens.
