At one time or other this has happened to the best of us. We live ... we learn.

I'm sorry about your pictures ...... if she formatted the hard drive & reinstalled Windows then they are likely gone forever.

Try to look at it this way... this lesson may well prevent you from losing more inportant files or data in the future.

Back up all your future personal files on a CD or DVD regularly or you can count on (for some reason or other) losing them again.

Im sorry because I think if you reboot the computer then all the files totally gone and this is the lesson for you: Always make a back-up copy files to your pictures or any document ( from a CD file or DATA sheet file to your CD ) so that there would be no problem when the computer crashes down.

Give a data recovery program a shot to recover your files. I used Recover My Files after my mother-in-law hit the power button while my computer was in mid-defrag. The disk was so corrupted at that point that I did a format (I already had a decent backup of my music and photos but not my email) and reinstalled the OS. I realized at that point my email backup was pretty out of date and I was able to use the low level recovery option to scan the disk for files (even after the format). Please note that if the area on the disk was overwritten, you will not be able to recover the file. I spent about $40 for the software from BestBuy and recommend it unless you can find a free alternative to try first.

As another response indicated, make sure to learn from this and implement a backup strategy. Currently I use a combination of two hard disks (same PC, but handles disk failure), writing to another computer (handles virus infection), writing to DVD (more permanent storage but takes time to write), leaving a copy of the DVDs with a relative (off site storage incase of disaster/total loss of residence). Choose something appropriate for the importance of your data. The DVD copy to a relative does two things, it provides them a copy of your pictures and it acts as a backup.

Yes, If you have windows xp load up the computer to the desk top. Click the start button/programs/Accessories/System tools/System Recovery and select the date to where you last had your pictures. This will restore your computer back to how it was. You will have the virus back but you can remove that by downloading a good anti virus. click this link and download this program http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10596553.html?tag=lst-0-1 . AVG just updated to 7.5. Make sure the antivirus is completly updated before you run the program. If you have any problems email me at jcatullo@gmail.com and I will walk you through everything. Goodluck!

although your question is not elborated but i can suggest you to go to any other pc (may be of any cafe) and try to search norton rescue disk (with cracks) from any p2p software like limewire ,burn them on your CD and try to run it on home pc.May be it can help. You can also search for other Data Recovery Software in limewire (preferably full version not the trial ones).
