Chevy Impala...my husband bought me a 2006 Impala. I love it, but I know very little about American cars...?

Can anyone tell me what they think of Chevy's and Impalas in particular?

yes...im a Holden girl through and through...

before coming to the US i gave up my Holden Commodore HSV :( ... what a great car!!!

i know quite a bit about cars, mostly Japanese and Australian, but very little about American Cars....I do know however that Holden is a GM company. The Pontiac GTO is actually a Monaro in Australia which in the 1970's was a muscle car, like the GTO. It was rebuilt a few years ago and sold very well. The only flaw...it dents very easily.

Do not name yourself Scattered Your only inquiring that's how you learn. The Impala is a great dead center American Car. The motor in your husbands car in it's infancy has been around for nearly forty years. General Motors actually sold the rights to that engine to the Chrysler Motor Company for use in their Jeep vehicles in the late 60's. Out of the clear blue sky G.M. bought the rights to the motor back and through the years it has been refined to a rock solid engine. The Impala Chevrolet once was a rear wheel driven model first built in the 60's. The beauty of this brand car is when the factory warranty is gone parts are the most readily available and least expensive than any other car in America. There are some four cylinder Japanese manufactures that can get better fuel economy but you sacrifice room and comfort. When foreign car warrantys are gone, parts costs are nothing short of outrageous! To check this out go on line and price a rebuilt starter and alternator for a Toyota. Compare with your Chevy. You'll see two to three times more for the same part. If you care to delve into the history of American automobiles go to l large library or book store they all have amazing stories to tell. you'll find years of reading material. I wish I knew what spacific auto you'd like to learn more about I could perhaps point you in a direction for a good reading source. Are you familiar with the Holden automotive company in Australia? They actually build platforms that some G.M. cars are built on. The Pontiac GTO and the up coming Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro is already being driven in Australia. I work as a mechanic so I've seen it all. The Chev's are a very good car built with quality parts, but like any piece of machinery there will be problems come up (this is the kind of stuff that will happen to any make or model of car). The great news is that parts for a Chev are much, much cheaper than for imports or other domestic cars. I'm a huge Impala fan and congratulate your husband on a good choice. You have possibly the best sedan on the road so have fun with it and know that you'll be okay.

they are very good. 2006 is a great year for the impala. They ride really nice, as you probably know, and are really smooth and refined. American cars used to have a bad reputation in the late 70s and 80s for low quality. but all that has changed now, and your Impala is part of the new generation of quality cars. Good luck with your new impala, and be sure to keep up with maintenance and you will see it pass 200,000 miles if you keep it that long : )
