Just set your email account to view their emails as spam and have it sent directly to the bulk folder. (Hopefully they don't use email to notify you of family emergencies.) Or simply say not to include you in their bulk forwarding because you don't want others to get your email address and to forward you undesirable emails. However blocking your parents will surely put you in the dog house so the bulk route seems pretty appropriate

I had the same problem until I told them that I love getting their emails and updates on how they are, but that y am very busy and don't have time to read other stuff and empty my inbox every night. If they want to forward something that might be of interest to you, you can ask them to make a note of it in the subject line.

Some people take it offensively, so to save grace, just delete them without forwarding them. You'd be surprised how many of the forwards are actually funny or interesting enough to read, whether you forward them or not. I'd leave well enough alone and NOT tell them to stop. If they're coming from someone you don't particularly care for, you can always spam them.

TELL THEM TO STOP! I told my wife's grandma (who sent me 10 jokes a day) in a very loving way that she was wasting my time. That there are 10 others just like her who sent me 10 jokes a day which = 100 emails! I explained that it's costing me and her granddaughter money when I'm sitting at my computer waiting for giant video feeds of monkey's sniffing their butts when I should be waiting on project bid notifications! I like a good joke as much as the next guy. But not when I'm supposed to be working! If they still continue, then BLOCK THEM! When they get mad that you blocked them, explain why since they obviously didn't understand it the first time!

What I have done is to email the ppl who send them, tell them that due to viruses and spam etc, that you will not longer open anything that is forwarded or appears to be a chain email. They'll get the hint, and if not, write them another email that directly tells them that "I do not wish to have my email inbox filled with forwards" and to please take you off of their forward list. If that doesn't work, change your email and don't tell them your new address.

Just nicely tell then you are open to personal correspondence but prefer not to get the jokes/stories/chain letters. I've done that before as I've gotten most of those things multiple times because I've been online so long. I finally just told some friends to stop as they didn't seem to have good judgement when it came to amusing or useful things to forward.

Seeing as how they are "family and friends" I would think it would be easy to just say...I'd prefer not to receive forwarded emails. You don't state your reason...but you can tell them whatever it is...I don't have time to read them, I get so much stuff my inbox gets full to fast...etc. etc.

Most people would understand. I certainly wouldn't be offended if someone asked me to take them of my "forward" list.

Sometimes, its too hard to say straight out, Hey, please don't send me forwards.

There are some people I have broken of the forward habit, by replying each time they send a forward. With a personal note-something to the effect of-
I havn't heard from you in so long, please let me know how you are.
I had one girl, who actually forwarded my note on to everyone in her list. She hadn't even read it!

Other's (like my mom)- I just don't open. The delete button is right there, use it.

Tell them that you got a computer virus from one of the emails and that it cost you $1000 to fix your computer, so you don't want them anymore. But you will still get some of them anyway.

I hate people who forward things, you either have to put up with it or tell them to stop sending, it's hard to sugarcoat. Some people just send to their entire address book so it's possible they won't take it personally. It would suck if it was someone who thought you would like the email and you told them to piss off, but it happens.
