It's a good opportunity but I would check further into severance pay, see if there has been any trend in downsizing/layoffs, and find out what their retirement plan is like. USSteel, like lots of other steel and manufacturing companies, has not had an easy time of things over the last 20-30 years and while they are in better financial states than they were 10 years ago, it's still not a very secure industry overall. I haven't paid close attention to the company lately but a while back, layoffs were common, often with short notice and no compensation, and retirement benefits were slashed. So before you sign on, I would check a little more into how stable they're expected to be for at least the next 3-5 years. If you can stay there that long, you will be very marketable especially with a degree and management experience but if you were to lose your job 5 months from now, you might have a very hard time finding another one.
