I was induced. I heard some great stories and I experienced a not so great one. Sometimes baby just needs a kick start. One mom, a co-worker, said that she went in and had the baby within a few hours with both of her kids. She loved it. She knew when she was going to have the baby and was able to plan it out. Mine was very slow. Bring lots of magazines and things to do. I was induced at 8am and din't start really dilating until the afternoon. They do all sorts of prep work before they give the pitocin. They start it gradually so that it mocks a natural labor experience. I had mild contractions, virtually painless, for a few hours. By 9pm I reached 10 cm. Fight the urge to give up. Many women who get induced do get c-sections so keep that in mind. The pitocin can make contractions more intense. Think about your labor plan. If you think you may need pain medication, then take it if it will prevent you from having a c-section. I went natural through the whole thing up until the third hour of pushing. The pain is manageable, find ways to help you cope with it, tennis balls in socks for massaging, a birthing ball, that felt the best for me. You can have a super quick labor or a longer one it really depends on your body and your baby. You are going to be fine. Enjoy every minute of it! Your baby will be six months old before you know it and you will wish you were back at the hospital holding him/her for the first time.

yes i do have tips for you. first thing first try and stay as calm and relaxed as possible. if you are afraid of an epidyoual i would suggest a shot of nu bane to numb u down there when it comes time to push. bring a disk man and something from home a cuddly bear or a blanket or something that's soft and squishy u may be doing a lot of squeezing and the last thing your coach needs is a broken hand. if things get too stressful try and zone into a different state of mind try even a wet washcloth on ur forehead. and remember the nurses are there to cater to ur every need but there are other people there too try and be patient with them. if you go for the epidural try and wait until 4 center meters dilated or better that way u don't have to worry about it counteracting your patossin or whatever they use to induce u with epidurals tend to slow labor down. so if u get get as far as u can without it u will be saving yourself a 24 hour labor.. and most of all.. enjoy it. because once its done there's no turning back you will forever have a tiny little child even if it's 18 it will always be you little baby. GOOD LUCK!

I would tell you to EAT before you get there, relax, and get the epidural!! I just had my first seven weeks ago, and was induced also, but everything went by so quickly, I didn't have much time to think about much! I went in at 6 am, was admitted to a room, hooked up to everything, and given the Pitocin drip. From there, it was just waiting and riding out the contractions. At noon, I had the epidural, and by 1:30, the doctor came in to check me, and I was told to start pushing. My daughter was born one hour later - I was extremely lucky! Don't worry about the pain, you do forget the most of it, since so much is going on, and your're concentrating on deliving your beautiful baby! Ask the nurses ANY and ALL questions you have, and if you can, let your baby stay in the nursery for a bit each day, so you can rest up!!!! Also, try to minimize visitors afterwards...you'll want a lot of time with just you and your new baby!! And REST, REST, REST!! Everyone tells you how much you don't sleep once you're home, and it's TRUE!! Good luck, and CONGRATULATIONS!

Prepare for some really bad pain. I was induced for my first and was not fully aware that the pain was going to be unbearable. They started pitocin and an hour later I was ready to scream and walk out of that damn hospital. Thay finally offered the epidural hours and hours later and I was tired enough to accept. The time came for me to start pushing and because I couldn't feel a thing they turned it off and that's when the real pain began. I wasn't able to experience the worst part of tranistion, getting to 10 centimeters before the epidural, so my pain tolerance was wrong. I pushed and pushed but didn't feel the urge to. After a few hours of this they cut me and used the vaccuum. It was BAD!!! I would've waited longer to have my daughter if I could have. Or I would have had them break my water and then request atleast an hour of no pitocin or any other type of inducer to see if my labor would progress naturally. I'd walk the halls and eat lightly. Granola bars and a banana. I'd stay hydrated by drinking gatorade. I'd pretty much do it as natural as possible for as long as I could. Do not let them tell you to only eat the ice chips!! You will be exhausted by the time your ready to push. Now the doctor and nurses will say that you'll probaly vomit when you start to push, if you eat, but the effects of dehydration and lack of energy are far more worse at that point. Good luck and please talk to your Doctor before they induce to find out if you can try it natural, breaking the water and then walking. Talk to your husband or to whom ever will be there for you as support to tell them to pack a few snacks and not resist giving them to you. (Even if that means behind the staffs back) Good luck and I hope I haven't scared you, it's just better to have an honest opinion and experience, for you to compare to so you don't go into this situation blind. Good Luck and Congratulations!!!

how exciting! Well be sure you've packed anything that you will need, including some warm cuddly socks. Go to the bathroom. Have clips to pull your hair back in case you start getting really sweaty when the major pushing part starts. Take something to keep you entertained while you're waiting for the action to start. Maybe you'll want a camera or video camera to capture certain parts. Don't forget to pack the outfit and blanket you want to bring your little darling home in. Car seat should also be installed before you go. Most of all, relax as much as you can and know that when this is all over, you'll be bringing home your baby and starting a whole new phase of life. Best of luck to you.

Rest before you go to the hospital and enjoy these last few hours alone. Look over your hospital bag and make sure that you have everything for you and the baby. Don't worry about how things are going to be. Just rest and relax. I was induced three times.

Pay close attention to what is going on. Ask a lot of questions. I was induced at 39 weeks, and they had trouble getting the dosage right. Also - be prepared to really want to epidural - pitocin makes a contraction worse.
Good luck - you'll be holding that new baby before you know it.

Drink a lot of water today before you go in, also try to eat something. If you get the epidural, keep in mind that when you are finally ready for it, it normal takes about an hour before you receive it. Take a nap......I know that you are anxious but you will need your rest....at least lay down for a little while. Good luck and congrats on you St. Valentine's Day Baby!!!

Oh goodness TAKE A NAP!!! It just might be your last one for a long time. Relax, wash your hair might be a couple of days before you get back in the shower, make phone calls to your loved ones. Double check the baby supplies and your bag for the hospital then take that nap!! Good Luck and congrats ahead of time!!!
