Around the seventh month. By the time I gave birth, I had only dripped a little colostrum (usually right after a shower), but OMG!!!! Within about seven hours of my son being born, my boobs grew three sizes! I even shocked the nurses. I asked for the baby because I needed to nurse him and they couldn't believe it. It was shocking it was funny. Good luck and I hope you chose to nurse and stick with it. It's the best thing you can do for yourself and the baby!

Milk develops in the breast three days after the birth of the baby. The contracting uterus alerts the body to start the milk production. The liquid that comes down before the milk is called colostrum. A new born baby gets enough nourishment and nutrition from this until the milk comes in.

Your breasts will start to produce colostrums at some point during your pregnancy (I was about 5 months pregnant when I noticed it). Your “milk will come-in” at about 2 – 4 days after the birth of your baby.

In a norm pregnancy about 6-7 months, depends on your hormone levels, I was lactating from really early on.
After birth you will be producing colostrum and on day 3 your milk will properly come in, they will feel really heavy and achy, the more baby feeds the more that is usually produced. Not in all cases though.

Breastmilk will start to develop at 20 weeks prenatal. Your body getrs the message to produce milk as soon as the placenta is delivered. Your brain receives a message to start producing and you can nurse your baby as soon as they are born. It happens almost instantly after birth. It is not suggested to do anything to toughen up your nipples prior to birth as this can lead to preterm labor. Good luck and if you have any other questions you can call your local lactation consulatant.
