Scratching will not give you stretch marks. Stretch marks are caused by the stretching of the skin as you get bigger with pregnancy. You need to moisturize daily, more than once if necessary. It will help with the itching and the stretching. But bear in mind that some people will have stretch marks no matter what they do to try to prevent it. My grandma says it depends on what kind of skin you have - not color, but texture. I think she's onto something with her theory, because she had 5 kids and no stretch marks. My mom (her daughter) only had me and she is tore up with them. I have 2 kids; I was tiny the first pregnancy, huge the second time, and I have no stretch marks even though I didn't really moisturize very often.

Scratching won't give you stretch marks....but one thing that will really help you to prevent stretch marks is to go to the drug store and pick up something with cocoa butter or shea butter. They both work great, and there's even brands made specifically for stretch marks.

Because people are uneducated. My guess is the theory came from this, "stretch marks look like scratch marks therefore they probably come from scratches". Stretch marks are genetic and it has nothing to do with scratching.

I don't think scratching can cause stretchmarks but it is definitely a sign of dry skin. You should try to put some type of oil - either olive oil, cocoa butter or just baby oil on wet skin right after you take a shower - which will not only stop the itching but help keep your skin more elastic and prevent the forming of too many stretchmarks.

I know its hard. Especially in the breast area. When you start to itch...Moisturize. They have this product called Mother's Friend...cause it definitely is. You can find it in the baby aisle. I've had 2 children using this stuff and I don't have a stretch mark in sight...Well I have good genes too, but I digress. Mother's Friend

Scratching does not give you stretch marks but it definitely make them worse. Try using vitamin e oil and try Palmer's cocoa butter.

Scratching does not give you stretch marks. It's the 'stretching' of the skin that causes them.
