Make sure he's not dead. Does he stink? If you touch his big claw does it move a little? Put him in a dish of water and see if he moves then. Do you mist your hermit crabs every so often? They love humidity. If you've got the heat on in the house he's probably dry. They like moisture in the air. Mist the inside of the tank every so often too.

as he is a hermit he wants to be left alone go away

This just a thought. He may need a bigger shell. Try and find one alittle bigger and put it in his/her cage. At night they will move into other shell. It might be getting cramped. Good luck.
