Why does it help a hedgehog when they are hibernating if thier temp drops?

During hibernation the hedgehog's body temperature falls. What is the advantage of this?

I don't know this as a fact but I assume it is because then they use less energy, and conserve food they had saved up in their bodies.

Their metabolism slows down and allows them to have reserve fat when they wake up.

They experience near death that's why they drop cold.
