I'm not trying to persuade anyone otherwise; I'm in favor of the second amendment. I'd just like more insight into the reasons people go to the trouble of getting a concealed carry permit. Defending yourself? Exercising a right? Please enlighten me.

As you stated we have a constitutional right carry firearms. So why do we exercise it? Well, simply put it's a peace of mind. I feel comfortable in the fact that I can defend myself if necessary. Other people may lock their doors or install a security system, but I feel a firearm would be more effective in defense of my person & property.
In western & southern States especially firearms are part of our heritage & still a large part of our daily lives, so it's normal for most to carry a weapon, like you would your keys or wallet.
Unfortunately I live in Canada, & the government decides what's best for me, so I'm limited (by legal means) to carry a concealed weapon & what caliber & type of firearms I'm allowed to own.
But rest assured, I will eventually be moving to a State that allows me to carry a concealed weapon.

the most important impediment to overcoming objections to wearing aboard a plane is the reality that a weapon discharge of any variety, at altitude, would in all probability reason a catastrophic depressurization, and in all probability deliver the plane down. A hollow the size of a pencil in the fuselage is all it would take. as a lot as I consider being waiting to carry in flight, that is basically fairly risky. a fashion round it may well be to let wearing on condition that the weapon is unloaded and cleared, and in trouble-free terms low potential ammo is provided on board.

Because I would look pretty stupid wearing a gun belt! I was, at one time, stalked. So, I carry a gun for protection but, I think clients would react very negatively if I walked into their offices obviously carrying a gun.
