Also, can it be taken off with conventional eye make-up remover? I'm really interested in what type of stores sell it.

I used Kohl for a bit years ago. I loved it! I had a friend (Syria Native) that imported it from Egypt along with cute little wooden bottles to keep it in. The Kohl itself is a very fine powder. My eyes always felt amazing when I wore it. The bottle looked like a perfume bottle with a stick that rested down in the powder. I was taught to apply it before a shower. You dip the stick in the kohl, place it flat inside your lower eyelid, close your eyes and draw it outwards. Immediately get in the shower and wash your face like normal. When you get out you will have the craziest raccoon eyes you've ever had. Take Lubriderm lotion on a kleenex and clean up around your eye. It gives a very Cleopatra look.

The difference between kohl and eyeliner is that kohl has great medicinal properties to it and eyeliner is just cosmetic. Kohl will stay on for 2-3 days (even with daily face washing) where as eyeliner will wear off or can be removed quicker. The kohl will get lighter and lighter each day. Eyeliner only lines the eye just above the eyelashes. Kohl gets down in between the lashes giving the effect of volume volume volume! Think Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean.

You can probably find kohl at any middle eastern store in your area. Just make sure it's imported from the middle east and natural.

This is the original eyeliner used for centures in the mideast.

There is a great definition about kohl on wikipedia, just key in khol on your search engine. Too much info to provide here. Its really interesting.

It is still available, but you may have to look around, dept. stores or even health food stores.

Unless the formula has changed, it used to smudge quite a bit. Used a lot in the late '60's and '70's.

Kohl actually is a shade of eyeliner, which you can find in eyeliner pencils, liquid eyeliner, cream eyeliners, etc. It's oftentimes used to make a smoky eye type of a look. Kohl is a dark gray kind of a color, and you can find it just about anywhere. Brands such as Maybelline make it, as well as brands like MAC. It's a color, and can be found just about anywhere that sells makeup! It isn't different from eyeliner...it is eyeliner, and can be taken off the exact same way with makeup remover, facewash, etc. depending on the brand and whether or not it's waterproof.

Otherwise, there is something called kohl that was invented in Saudi Arabia that women there put on the eyelid to enhance their eyes. It's an eyeshadow actually, and is the same as regular eyeshadow except the color is called "kohl." They used to make it out of animal fat, soot, and sulphur, but now that cosmetics are all over the place I don't think that kind is used so much anymore, especially not in the USA. But al you have to do is look for an eyeliner or eyeshadow that is labelled "kohl" for it's color.

kohl (also known as kajar) is used as a beautification and a medication for you eye, it brings out the cold from your eye. It is removed by simple water or a tissue and sometime it removes itself. It tingles a little because it is a medication for your eye, you apply it just like eyeliner. It comes in stick or powder form, but the stick is more widely used. In my country it is sold in Islamic stores, where u r u can probably get it at the middle eastern stores.
Ps am a muslim so i kno what i am talkin about.

It's made for your Waterline. It won't go away the the other Eyeliners. DON'T BUY RIMMEL LONDON SOFT KOHL EYELINER!!! I used it and b4 i was finished the whole entire tip came off! I was so pissed. It kept doing that. So I wouldn't recommend that one. Buy Pretisge Soft Kohl Eyeliner. I LOVE IT!! :DDDDD
