I would like to create simple 2D cartoons on my computer...something in the vein of uptoten.com or homestarrunner.com. Does anyone have any suggestions for software to use or books to read?

Like a majority of the people have already said use Flash! go to adobe.com and download the trail addition, its easy to learn and VERY fun to use. Homestar runner was created using flash, so really just use Flash :-) its got a real nice setup and TONS of online support. Because flash is becoming so darn popular and it is used everywhere on the internet you really shouldn't have problem finding a beginners guide for it. If you need any further assistance with using Flash id be more then happy to answer your questions, just email me if you like. retrogamer4ever@yahoo.com

Hello there.

If you're making animated cartoons, try the Macromedia Flash MX. If you're making static cartoons, any graphics art software would be enough.

Okay, here is my reply What animators use now that science is so colossal, they're going to use their desktops and placed techniques which are identical-however extra complicated-to adobe's photoshop. Sometimes, what they are going to do is they're going to draw out the man or woman on a sheet of paper-to plot it out-then placed it on their laptop. See on techniques like photoshop, it's feasible to make anything like a caricature, however it is fairly tough and takes tough paintings and attention. Yes, they nonetheless use pencils and pens and paper however they use that to plot out their caricature, they do not use it they method they used to again within the....ninety's or eighty's. Now they depend almost always on their laptop.
