You need to know what the Interest Rate is. That is, what percentage of your investment will be added on as your profit. Once you know that, you can then calculate how much you will make on any amount of investment. Okay, so how do you calculate the Rate? Remember, it's going to be Something Percent of your investment. So look at the information they gave you. Something Percent of $1500 is $45. Now write that in the form of math symbols, like this: ? x 1500 = 45 Looks easy to solve now, right? And once you know what the Rate is, you just apply it to the new investment, like this: Rate x 2000 = Answer!

X times 1500=45 solve for x...this is the rate of intereste he paid...to solve for x...45/1500=x

so it turns out he paid .03 or 3% interest rate

then multiply x by 2000 and thats how much he would have to pay ...at the same rate...

and it turns out he paid $60 at 3 %

You would have to find a common multiple to figure it out.

Both of these numbers can be reached by multiplying a number by 500.

3*500= 1500
4*500= 2000

Figure out how much interest you would have earned if you had only 500 Since 3 * 500 is equal to 1500 you simply have to take your 45 and divide by 3

45/3=15

If 500 makes 15 dollars interest then 2000 will make 4 times as much. Since 2000 is 4 times as large as 500

15*4 = 60

45/1500=x/2000
45x2000/1500=x
45x2000=90000
90000/1500=60
x=$60
