Really, the last shooting my town was because criminals broke into a guy's house. They bad guys left in handcuffs after meeting Col. Colt.
Could it be that the media has an agenda?
The Laws of Physics dictate that firearms don't go off by themselves. What needs to be done is to punish criminals severely, if not execute them. There is evil in this world. It doesn't reside in an inanimate object, but in people that are more than willing to slaughter innocent people by any means necessary.

The reason you don't hear of self defense stories is because the media rarely publishes them. The best research on the subject, by award-winning criminologist Gary Kleck, indicates Americans use firearms for defense about 2.5 million times a year - about 8 times more often than they are used criminally. In about 85% of these defenses, no shot is fired. The simple presence of the firearm in the hand of a citizen is sufficient to stop the crime. This is not newsworthy - "a man stopped a burglary by showing he was armed. No shots were fired. The burglar ran" simply isn't interesting enough for national TV. The extremely rare instances of shootings in a school are splashed all over the news simply because they are so rare.
When looking at gun control, comparing countries on the simple basis of gun ownership is useless. Many countries with low ownership rates have higher violent crime and homicide rates than those of the US. The true evaluation of gun control is what happens within a specific geographical area after gun control laws are changed. Where gun controls are made more stringent, there is almost always no drop in TOTAL violent crimes and homicides. In many instances such crimes increase (England, Canada, Australia are good examples.) In the US the number of firearms has increased by tens of millions over the past couple of decades. In addition, many states now allow any law-abiding citizen to carry a concealed firearm. But in the United States violent crimes and homicide rates have dropped considerably over that time period. In addition, the rates have dropped the most in those states which allow citizens to carry concealed firearms. The highest rates are in those cities with the MOST restrictive gun controls (Washington, DC, Chicago, Los Angeles are good examples).
When listening to the news on TV, remember that their job is to increase listener numbers. Therefore they choose the most sensational stories and those that are the most unusual.

Unfortunately that's not going to happen. We have a right to bear arms which is just as important as freedom of speech.
With things going the way they are in America with all the immigration from all over the world...Americans are not going to give up their right to bear arms.
