BACKGROUND INFO: five years ago i remarried. within a few months we ended up with full custody of his children (mother moved and left them behind). the mother moved back to our town about a year after she left but the courts wouldn't give her the children back. the youngest child is now a senior in high school.
NOW, ONTO THE DREAM: i was dreaming that i was having a very "in your face" arguement with my youngest step child (the senior). in this dream he said he was going to move in with his Mother. I awoke from the dream in a state of panic (AND HERE'S WHERE IT GETS WEIRD) when i awoke she was standing next to my bed... she looked like a MUCH YOUNGER version of herself... LONG before I would have ever known her and the details were VERY vivid... the hairstyle, the clothing... she was standing next to my bed with her arms at her sides just looking at me. i felt myself panic and rolled over NOT ABLE to go back asleep. WHAT WAS THAT??? trust me, i was NOT asleep when i saw her

I understand you where able to move during the experience. I think that the article in the link does describe some of the characteristics of what happened to you. Although the fact that you where able to move, is a contra-indication. Anyway I would search for the answers in the diffuse borderlands between sleep and awakening, where part of you is awake, and part still asleep. Please read the article.

It's possible that you were in the twilight phase of sleep, that is, in between being awake and asleep. When this happens, the mind is conscious that it's awake, but the dreams we have don't realize it yet. That's the completely down-to-earth explanation. However...
Ghosts of the living are not unheard of. Sometimes a strong emotion has been known to bring a person's essence to another without the person knowing it. Since the situation with your husband's ex is obviously very strained, this would account for the emotion.

What you have seen is real. It very rarely happens. The
soul of a person goes out of the body (some what
similar to OBE) to convey some message. I will describe
an incidence for this possibility.
Mr. A is a worker who works to dig earth for an
electricity distribution company. Others have left the
spot at night while Mr. A doing the finishing work.
Suddenly the earth caved in. Mr. B who is who is
walking by the sea shore suddenly saw the luminous
figure of Mr. A, his friend, extending his hands as if
he is asking for help. Mr. B is terrified to see the
luminous figure, but recovered soon. He rushed to the
spot where Mr. A was working and did the needful to
rescue him.

It wasn't a ghost you saw. Ghosts are spirits that remain and wander on earth because they're not yet ready to move on. I think what you saw was a fragment of time replaying itself.
Think about it as if the timeline is a record that skips once in a while. It remains stuck replaying a piece of the song over and over again, but eventually moves on. Now think of the girl as the "skipping part" of the record. That's exactly what she was. Just a piece of time being replayed.

My first thought is that you were still asleep and having a vivid dream, but you are so sure you weren't! It's said that we all astral travel during sleep, so possibly this is what she was doing and her astral self appeared as she likes herself to seem - younger. She obviously had something she wanted to 'say' to you. That's the explanation I can come up with at the moment...

my gut feeling tells me that some one is dabbling in magic. the dream can easily be explained as your own worst fears..however...seeing the mother in your room, as an image before you could have ever known her tells me that either the son (or friends of his) are responsible for this...or the mother herself. The other possibility is that you maifested this image yourself, out of your own fear. and yes, it is possible for you to see a younger version of her (your mind would create the image of her around the time the child was born). Is there any history of anyone in your family being psychic?

It was a figment of your imagination---if your dream was that real, so in your face, then your subconscious created the figure "for you"....
Yeah, dreams like that, who needs nightmares!
That's the point when I get up, go have a glass of ice water, take a blanket and turn on late-night tv--usually TVland has something good on....

Believe you saw what you saw. I belive she was "called" by your fear of losing the child. If it happens again tell her to get lost and the kids are staying with you. She comes not out of love but fear!The mind is powerful and so is love. Enjoy your family

hmmm was it a doppelganger? thats like a clone but a spirit. my friend knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guys's SISTER who knew his mother's brother's aunt. Nah im just kidding, but my bud said he saw his brother go into a room, and then his brother came in through the front door and walked down the hallway and just disappeared into thin air. he went into the room where he saw his brother go, and he was there, acting like nothing went wrong... ITS A SIGN OF 23!!!!! Nah kidding again.

she could have been doing astral projection its an out of body thing the 1st replier said, the indians did it that or it could have been a part of her that is gone aka a ghost of her from the past
