Because they cheat - especially if they're doing it for a living. The rules infer that Association Football is a non-contact sport, so what the hell is a "professional foul", which many players actually practise??
It is interesting to note that soccer players are more likely to end up in hospital than, say, rugby league or rugby union players, who ARE playing a contact sport.

It is a very tough sport as anyone that has played knows. The demands on your body are great. Constant action for 90 minutes and when you are going 100% at top speed and get tackled there is bound to be injuries. There may be also a little overtraining factoring into the injuries. Also unlike pansy sports like NFL football, we wear no pads or helmets and other protective gear. It takes a real athelete to play futbol/soccer. Also, your average male, in the US at least, does not play futbal/soccer. Finally the passion that most play with seems greater that the passion in other sports.
Just my view on the matter.

Have you ever tried playing 90 minutes of competitive football twice a week? Plus around 20 hours of intense training? Its amazing that they are not injured more often!
They are putting the body under enormous strain, especially seeing as there is often not enough recuperation time given (national team commitments, champions league, cup matches etc etc)
they really are at the peak of physical condition- they have to be, its inevitable that they are going to get injured. The human body was not built for such extremes

Because they play against Man City and run them into the ground so they have to retaliate by injuring them

Football (soccer) players are running around with no protective gear, when they run into each other at full speed, believe it or not it does hurt.
Football (American) players are pansies! it looks like their mommy dressed them for the game.
I can hear mommy now..."Do you have enough protection??? I dont want you to get hurt, Here put on this helmet with face guard, shoulder pads, thigh pads, rib pads, tape up your ankles, wrap your elbows and knees, tape up your fingers oh and dont forget your jock strap."

football (soccer, american speak) is the real deal. their only protections are a pair of flimsy shin pads and their quick reaction. in case someone don't know, football is a contact sports.

'cause there's lots of pressure on them to win...i think it is a fairly tough game, although doesn't have the reputation of rugby etc.
