I have to know why the Big five (Lion, Leopard, Buffelo, Rhino and Elephant ) in South Africa is called the Big Five?

Of course, there are many animals in Africa bigger than lions and leopards (a big male leopard only weighs 80-90kg). But these animals are traditionally the most sought after trophies by white hunters in Africa, because they pose the greatest challenges. This is, to a great extent, still true in the hunting industry today for buffalo and Elephant. Leopard and rhino may not be hunted commercially anymore in most African countries and lion hunting is very rare nowadays.
Instead the legacy has, thankfully, shifted to capturing these animals in the viewfinder of a camera for the amateur and professional photographer alike.
Of course, "the big five" is not an exclusively South African term, but bears relevance to most of sub-Saharan Africa.

The phrase Big Five game was coined by big-game hunters and refers to the five large mammals that were sought in Africa.[1] The term is still used in most tourist and wildlife guides that discuss African wildlife.

The members of the big five were chosen for the difficulty in hunting them and not their size, which is why the leopard is on the list and the enormous hippopotamus is not. The big five are among the most dangerous mammals.

Hunters sometimes don't include the Leopard, instead calling them the Big Four... The why is self-evident though, there are Five of them and they're the most dangerous big game to hunt.

That all being said, hippos are about as dangerous as buffalo but they're not truly considered big game...not very many people go to Africa to hunt hippopotamus.

they are called the big five becuase when they are wounded they charge. They are seen as the most dangerous animals. There is a big six as well, this just includes the hippo, which is also very agressive. NB. did you know there is a small 5 too?
