I am for them. I left school afew months ago and am now in uni and I realise how hard it is to choose something different to wear every day.
Having children all wear the same clothes reduces bullying, low self esteem( for those who can't afford the nice clothes) and also gives children a sense of unity with their fellow school mates. Having a uniform makes everyone equal, it saves parents money on clothes and saves the child time in the morning.

people could argue the other side that:

Uniforms surpress our individuality, they don't allow children to express their uniqueness and even though they save parents money on buying losts of clothes, the inital cost of a uniform can be very expensive. Also sometimes outside of school it can cause fights if people from different schools meet, see what school the other is from (by uniform) and start arguments on the idea of thinking "my school is better than yours"!

It's a tough one to call, a good question, but personally I am for it!

I am definately for school uniforms. I know most kids are likely to disagree because most kids love clothes.

From a parents perspective school uniforms save a lot of money. Also school uniforms reduce teasing and bullying of some kids that are less fortunate than others, who's parents are unable to buy them expensive clothes. No one has to stand out as looking different. All in all it is a good thing to have school uniforms.

I am for school uniforms. I wore plain clothes grades 1-8 and then 9-12 I had to wear a uniform. It was such a relief not to have to worry about what I was going to wear and whether it would look okay. All that mattered is whether you had a clean shirt and tights. Plus, it lessens the amount of competition over clothing - although there is a slight amount of consideration over shoes.

I grew up with uniforms in a communist country and I am totally for them. I have never found them to curtail creativity, quite the opposite. In fact students had to find other ways to stand out and they became more creative. They are the great status and class leveler in school. Kids who are not constantly preoccupied with what to buy and wear to school can focus more on the purpose they are there for. Uniforms can also foster school pride like in sports, where they are already used by schools.. (look at the professional sports teams), and I've never heard any school athletes complain that they can't wear their own things to a basketball/volleyball/football game, have you? Getting dressed in the morning, girls would have tons more time to sleep because they wouldn't have to spend "hours" deciding what to wear each morning. (that's a bonus :))And last but not least, it saves parents a lot of money and that money could be spent on more fun things like holidays to fun places, treats for the family, etc. Oh, yes, and a lot less laundry!

All for it. It eliminates a lot of negative energy and jelousy in the school. It also makes life easier for parents and the students regarding the hassle of choosing. For older kids (mid and high school), I do think that a "once a month" uniform free day would be nice so the kids can express their personality.

I totally agree with school uniforms, the main reason being, some poorer familes may not be able to afford lots of nice clothes. The good thing about uniforms is everyone is equal.

Definately for!

Uniforms save the parents loads of money in the long run - kids can be mean when it comes to one of the others not having the latest designer gear so if they all wear the same....

It also helps a kid understand that in some circumstances (later in work) they have to look smart.

:-)

I am for a strict dress code, maybe not uniforms. But I'm not against them. Too many little girls running around dressed like their going to the club at school. Too many little boys running around school dressed like their little hoodlums at school. Too many kids make fun of other kids because their parents can't afford 150$ jeans.
