Since coming to Canada 2 years ago, I've been using my Chinese name as my English name -- Liqiang. But whenever I tell people my name, they either ask me to repeat it or they can't tell that I'm a girl or a boy (I'm a boy, btw).

I want to have a real English name, and my last name is Li. Please gimme some good names that would go well with "_______ Li"

That way you could keep your initials the same.

Personally, I would keep Liqiang... it is your name and Canada isn't a melting pot like the U.S. It's a mosaic.
English people just should get used to it. I bet if an English person went to live in China they wouldn't change their name to suit the Chinese... I'm guessing of course.
Just don't get discouraged about repeating yourself... you know it'll take time but it'll get easier...it has to.

Good Luck!

i agree with the first poster, but i know it can be frustrating if you have a name that is difficult for others to pronouce - i don't know about canada, but it is very common in america for boys to go by their last name. Li should be very easy for most people to pronouce. alot of people here have nicknames like "mac" or use thier initials (first and middle name) esp. if they are named for their father. if you are set on a more english sounding name, i would try to at least find one that had the same meaning as your name, so as not to hurt your parents. try a baby naming site for ideas or put what your name means on here and i will be happy to look up suggestions for you.

I am sorry you are having such problems, our daughter had a German exchange student for a friend and we gave her a nickname as well as her mother because their names were difficult to pronounce. They loved their nicknames and still refer to themselves with them. Some names I would suggest are: Lane, Nate, John, Dalton, Zack, William, Keith something simple. Good Luck
