Fly into La Guardia - LGA- . with med-light traffic , the ride should take you under 45 minutes. Driving directions are counter intuitive so ask again when you book your flight

Any of the New York airports - JFK, LaGuardia (LGA) or Newark (EWR) will be pretty close, though you'll have to fight NYC traffic.

White Plains (HPN) may be an option - that'd be closer and less traffic, but it is a MUCH smaller airport and you'd have fewer flight options.

New Haven, CT (HVN) is also a small airport. It is served by US Airways, and I know they decent flight service to KS.

There is also an airport N of Hartford (BDL) which is a bit of a ride, but it has more flights that White Plains and avoids the NYC area. It might be your most affordable option, as Southwest Airlines flies there, and they tend to drive down prices.

I think you are best off flying to JFK.
