In most communities Styrofoam cups are not recyclable nor are the clear plastic ones. To be sure, I would suggest contacting your local recycling processor. To determine if something is recyclable, you need to first find out what can be recycled in your area and then check the material. The answer about the triangle is partially right- yes, look for the triangle but that it not the end- you must read the number instead the triangle. Most community recycling programs only accept plastic that are either a number 1 or 2- this number should appear in the triangle. Number 1 plastic are your milk jugs and number 2 are your 2-liter or 20 oz. beverage bottles. Again, ask your recycler, but most plastic needs to have a neck to be able to be recycled- plastic cups won't fit that scenario. Few communities recycle Styrofoam because the infrastructure for the used material does not exist. Those that do, have an end user for the post consumer waste. Your best bet is to reusable cups. If that is not feasible try to use paper cups- as paper is a renewable resource unlike plastic which is a petroleum product and is dependent on oil production.

Yes, but they have a fairly good reason for it. You see, the plastic cups once took them to court for not paying a debt. Then things got nasty and the plastic cups took out a restraining order, and hired O.J.'s attorneys to defend themselves from the lies they made up about polystyrene.
It is all tied up in court now, and bitter feelings remain high to this day.

Hmm, I clicked on this question, and it said it was removed, and now it's back, and the question I asked was worthless.
I think plastic ones hold more prejudice than polystyrene.
