Ok, this is how I see the problem. South's points are 4/5th of the total. So let's say they had 40 points out of 50. Rachel had 1/4 of the 40 points. That's 10 points. So Rachel had 10/50 total points or 1/5.

A lot of teachers offer after school help if you are having trouble, maybe he/she would be a good resource.

If south high scored 4 out of 5 possible points, then they scored 4 points.

If Rachael scored 1/4 of the total points (total points scored were 4), What is 1/4 of 4?

does that help?

Rachael scored 1/4 of 4/5. In math, 'of' means to multiply. When you multiply that out, you find that Rachael scored 1/5 of the pts.

x = total points
y = south high's points

south high scored 4/5x = y

Rachel scored 1/4 • 4/5x of her team's score.

Rachel scored x/4 for all points.

Be careful when reading Teacherintheroom's answer - he only calculated South High's score, not the total score.

Just plug in some numbers for the scores and work it out. That's how I checked.

1/20. north scored 4/5 of the total and rachel scored 1/4 of the remainder. 1/4 of 1/5 is 1/20 of the total.
