Its interesting that you bring this up. My boyfriend and I have just placed an ad online looking for more gay friends.
We specifically pointed out that we are monogamous and only looking for friends (preferrably couples) and thankfully we have not had anyone reply to our ad looking for sex.
I think the reason you are having the opposite experience is because you are the single person in this situation and the couples are bored of each other. If you find the right couples who are in a committed relationship, you will have two friends, not just two people who want to get you in bed.

I can't figure it out either. my girlfriend and I finally thought we had found some really good friends and after a couple of years being friends they decided they wanted more....we left that friendship that night...I have a hard time trusting anybody in our lives after that...

The trick is only to be friends with one of the couple, that way the one won't suggest it and the other won't care to.
