I'm going on my 13th week of pregnancy. Today I'm going for my very first ultrasound. I was wondering if was at all possible for the technician to tell the gender of the baby yet? I don't know if that is a stupid question or not....but I am just curious.

13 weeks is still too early. i HAVE heard that some have known as early as 15 weeks but even then it's iffy, the baby's genitals are a little swollen at that point to get a super accurate answer. usually it's around 20 weeks that you can get a DEFINITE gender shot...and that is only IF the baby cooperates! my babies have always been shy and quite stubborn! LOL good luck to you!

They usually can't tell the gender until between 20 and 24 weeks.

It's not a stupid question at all. However, you won't be able to tell. Until the baby is at least 16 weeks, it will look the same.
Boys and girls don't start looking different until minimum 16 weeks.

The fetus has not yet developed these features. Best to wait until about 20 weeks. Then it is POSSIBLE to tell.
Congratulations and good luck! :)
