Some will point out that Lincoln did try to appease the Southern Voter by down playing his distaste for Slavery. The Proclamation was a nice piece of war Propaganda on Abe's part as it helped Knock the Europeans away from supporting the South. It was not the Big Picture though. After having a Vision He made sure that after the war was won he would free the slaves and do More. before Lincoln Was elected Democrat President Buchanan tried to Pass the 13th Amendment making Slavery Legal and Permanent. Lincoln After the war Had Congress Pass a New 13th Amendment Making Slavery Illegal forever. Obama has limited Knowledge and so makes great politician, He would Be a Lousy Leader.

Okay, it seems to me that you're looking for a fight where there isn't one. I am a conservative, but I'm also a military history major who knows a little more about our nations past than what's taught in elementary school. In the first grade, I learned that Lincoln freed the slaves to end racism and that the civil war was all about slavery. Now that I've taken the time to get educated, I know that there was a little more to it than that. Barack Obama, whether you like/respect him or not, is most likely more educated than any individual you will find on this forum (including you and including me). He is a Harvard graduate and a junior senator of the United States; two serious achievements. Anyway, back to the Civil War. Lincoln didn't free the slaves over race, racism, or any other "ism." Lincoln freed the slaves as a war tactic. He did it to bring economic harm to the enemy and recruit more individuals to the Northern Effort. Lincoln, like most white men at the time, didn't care any more for the freedoms of blacks than did Jefferson Davis. Remember, the Civil War went on for several years while slavery was still the protected constitutional right of Southern States. It began to prevent those states from seceding from the Union. They wanted to secede because the Western Territories were most likely going to be made into "free states;" thereby screwing over the Southern States in congressional representation.
On a final note, Hillary is not dumb. She is a lot of things that are too lewd to mention on this forum, but dumb isn't one of them. Remember, most of your enemies, whether they are Hitler or Osama bin Laden, aren't dumb. Don't buy into the rhetoric of the people who want to further Bulkanize and divide this country. In any and all likelihood, anybody who uses the word "liberal" or "Republican" as a slander most likely doesn't have your true best interest at heart. They only want to keep you angry and keep themselves in power.

It's actually pretty historically accurate. Lincoln didn't free the slaves because he believed that that was the right thing... he freed them to get at the South. Lincoln really didn't have much of a choice in the matter and it was a brilliant move.
Edit: By the way, I may be a leftist, but I'm not much of an Obama fan.... so take that for what you will.

At the time most people had limited views on race. Just because he thought slavery was abhorrent does not mean that he thought of Africans of less of a people. They still were only given limited rights during the era after slavery was abolished.
If Lincoln did have limited views on race it was because of the ignorance of the day, not because of his prejudice.

Actually, Lincoln didn't want blacks to have the same rights or privileges as whites. Sure, he believed that they shouldn't be enslaved, but that was about the extent of it.
