Could the electronic interference eventually cause some of them to malfunction?

Lots and lots, and lots. I think that many of them are top secret from one gov or another. So nobody knows how many there are. But yes they do malfunction all the time. Many shooting stars people see are just satellites that have used up their fuel and are on an degenerating orbit. They will come through the atmosphere and usually crash into the ocean, or some place safe.
