yes it does. people are afraid to place themselves in other peoples shoes. lets say for instance instead of christianity, people were trying to push islam, or buddhism on our nation. then the christians would be freaking out about changing their believes. what they dont realize is that thats exactly what THEY are trying to do themselves. separation of church and state guarantees that anybody can worship however they want without having any interference. if you want to practice islam, fine...but you do it in a mosque. if you want to practice christianity, great...but do it in a church. you should not have to go to the local city hall and see christian statues and scriptures posted, just like christians wouldnt want to see a statue of buddha in their city hall. thomas jefferson once stated that separation of church and state was one of the most important key ideas that make america great. if you take that away, we become like all these countries we despise now.

p.s. for those who are going to say there is no separation of church and state in the constitution, read it more carefully. it says government shall not favor one religion...by placing religious objects in a government building, that violates it. for a court case, look up everson vs. board of education, an unanimous decision that says we indeed do have a "high wall of separation."

Do you have any idea at all what the concept of separation of church and state means?

Are you aware that nowhere in the constitution or in any law in this nation does the phrase "separation of church and state" exist?

Read the Constitution. Please. Read the Federalist Papers. Please. Find out about your country's history in politics and religion and why it was created the way it is. Forget Jerry Falwell -he has nothing to do with it.

Here's my brief comment on the matter. The Constitution does not protect the government from being invaded by religion. It protects the citizens from having the government dictate what religion they should practice. This is a Christian nation. Our laws are based on Judeo Christian values. There's nothing wrong with that - laws have to be based on something. Those values allow any religion to be practiced. That's a good thing when you consider the options. For example:

Secular humanism/Communism allows no religion. Should a government deny religion to its citizens?

Muslim - actually makes the government and religion the same thing. Agree with it or be killed OR at best, live as a second class citizen with no right to practice your religion while following the Muslim religious law.

There is no effort to make the government and the Christian religion one entity. Even if there is, are you really afraid of Jerry Fallwell? Please. You should be glad this is a Christian nation. It ensures your freedom. All other options are much worse.

First let it be said that no one really takes Jerry Falwell and George W. Bush very seriously - their track record is far from stellar on things. Not to mention that they would both be condemned to hell for their sins in the Christian thought, so I question them really desiring such a thing.

With that said, I think it will never happen because the United States is a multi-religious country, and since there is that pesky thing called "freedom of religion", they will not be able to achieve anything of the sort. And with that other thing on the separation of church and state, well, I don't think there is a leg to stand on.

Now, playing devil's advocate, they could be speaking of the values, and not really the literal "Christian" thing. If they are looking at the values, then they will have less resistance. But I think they will not be able to legislate morality, which is what they desire to do. It violates too many rights guaranteed in the Constitution.

The prophets of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, James Dodson and other so called christian religious leaders embrace Mr. Bush as man of god. They are attempting to push there so called "christian agenda" upon the majority of Americans. The have little regard for the separation of Church and state.

Jerry Falwell is a has been. He lost his credibility when he said that gays were responsible for 9-11. What an ******. I thought he was a jerk, and then he opened his mouth and removed all doubt. People who use religion to spread hate should have a spot next to Sadamm in hell.

First off, Bush has never pushed for a "Christion Nation", as for Jerry Falwell, who cares what he wants. I assume that you are a liberal, so you of all people should respect the right of a private citizen to have their own beliefs on what they feel the nation should be.

What scares me as a liberal Chrisitan is that the religious right isnt pushing a truly Christian nation, they are pushing for their warped and perverted version of what they think is Christianity.

This country was founded on traditional christian values. The framers of the constitution based their works on christian values. Our legal system is based on christian values. Or money says "In God we trust".

So, embrace our nation or go to France.

*EDIT.... Thank you, for the nasty and vulgar email that you sent to my account. It just proved my point that liberal loons such as yourself are so full of hate and anger that you have to resort to filth when you have no clue of the facts. ! Have a lovely day.
