I live in a 4-plex and someone in another unit is smoking pot...lots of it when they do. When my heater goes on my house wreaks of pot smoke. I have a 4 month old baby and a 22 month old baby...is this affecting them? Or myself and my husband? Why is it coming out of our vents if we each have our own furnace? What should I do about this?
Thanks in advance!

This is an easy one. Just call the local drug unit and explain your situation. They'll be happy to send out a K-9 unit and pinpoint the apartment for you and of course do something about it. You could call your landlord first but he/she probably can't or won't do much about it. Get the cops involved first. When someone gets arrested, then the landlord can evict.
You're dealing with second-hand smoke from an illegal substance here.
I guess I don't have to tell you the negative effects of this to you and your family. You also might want to consider a lawsuit for indifferent/wreckless endangerment.

Well unfortunately one of the best ways to accomplish this would be to contact the person in the four plex that is smoking and ask them to do it in another area that is less ventilated you can also try using a hepa filter for your vents this might contain some of the smoke. As for the affect that it has upon you and your child, I would think that the concentration of the particles would be more of a smell issue than a health threat. But I would make sure your hubby isn't the one doing the chiefing.

Some how, the vents are interconnected, or sealed badly enough that your furnace is drawing air from the potheads apartment.
Complain to the apartment management and try installing an allergy reduction type filter in your furnace. It should filter out more of the smoke.
It's doubtful the smoke is concentrated enough to have any intoxicating effects, but it is second hand smoke, and does create a health hazard, just like cigarette smoke.

heheh outside air is more harmful to your babies then a cloud of pot smoke. but if you feel you must do something about it confront that suspected smokers and explain that it goes into vents , in no way shoud you contact police unless you want a lot of head aches further down the road when they decide to retaliate, so best thing as a good neighbor is to solve it peacefully without government involvement

It's embarasing, but it isn't harmful. Pot smoke contains no carcinogens. So the guy who said it was 10x worse than cigarette smoke must be on crack. It is something you should address though. Talk to your neighbors about it. Pot smokers tend to be laid back people. They will figure out a way not to smell up your apt.

OMG. That is what I would expect I guess- pot smoke smells and sticks around alot more than cigarette smoke. You definitely need to do something (not only is it 10x worse for you than cig smoke) how embarrassing will it be when someone stops by and they think you're puffin on a blunt? PUT A NOTE UP IN THE LOBBY ADDRESSED TO EVERYONE- SO YOU DON'T ACUSE ANYONE OF ILLEGAL ACTIVITY.

A large lettered note in the lobby, impossible to miss. You don't have to identify yourself.

Stop smoking marijuiana in this building. Authorities will be notified.

Short, to the point.

Pot is illegal. Ask them not to smoke and tell them why. If they persist, inform the landlord. If it continues, call the cops.
