A situation in which two or more people or groups work to achieve the same desirable result...and only one can achieve it.
People competing for a promotion. People playijng golf to get the lowest score in a championship event. People trying to get more attention from a loved one who has limited ability to give it. Students achieving high grades to become the valedictorian. A business that wants a greater portion of sales than another business that is selling the same thing to the same market.
Cooperation also can lead to winning, but there are these situations when what's happening is COMPETITION.
How's that?
