because they are in water all the time so it cleans them and also if you put plants in there some plants clean the water and that means cleans the fish. Plus if you have one of them tanks with the filters in it and the fish goes up close to the bubbles that is kind of there way of cleaning.

They have what is called a Slime coat covering their scales. This slime coat prevents dirt, parasites etc from sticking to the fish.

Well you should see my fish its covered in parasites even my cat won't eat it let alone look at it, its a swimming trash can.
