I hated it!! It caused my body to have reactions and I couldn't get it out of my system I just had to take medication for my side effects and wait for it to be out of my system (3 months).
It made my pulse and blood pressure rise so much I ended up in the hospital.

It's called Depo Provera and I've been on it for about a decade. I love it, although (like anything) it's not for everyone.
The primary side effect for many is cessation of your period (this is not harmful). I'd stay on it for that side effect alone.
Some women experience weight gain on it, I haven't had any that I could attribute to the shot (just what I put in my mouth).
Read up on it and see if it sounds like something you'd like. http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/bcdepo.htm I also like that you get the shot once every 3 months, so there's no daily pill to take or weekly patch to change, or monthly vaginal insert to swap out.
It's effective 24 hours after you get the shot, and lasts for 13 weeks. It costs about the same as the pill (the pill was about $20 a month back when I was taking it and the shot runs close to $60 for 3 mos).
Do some research on the various bc methods (there are lots of new pills out now also) and see what you think. This is my preference but then I don't want kids and another side effect of the shot is that it can take up to a year to conceive after getting off of it.

I was on the depo provera shot for several years after the birth of my 2nd child. I loved it because I didn't have to worry about forgetting and it was so convenient. I did gain some weight but nothing excessive. I am planning to use the shot as contraceptive after this pregnancy as well. However, I have heard information regarding bone loss that is permanent caused by the shot.

It can stimulate the appetite in some women, leading to weight gain. There are also concerns now over the effect on bone density, so it isn't recommended for use for any longer than 2 years.
I've been on it for 6 years and have had no problems.
Your GP or practice nurse will be able to talk through all the pros and cons of various options with you :)

No DEPO is not the way to go. Try Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo pills and see how that is. Injection have too much side effect and long term concussions.

The things I have heard are weight gain and some get some severe mood swings. I do not know myself. I have health problems that I have chosen to avoid all those types of contraceptives.

yes i have DONT USE IT!!! i had violent mood swings, i put on alot of weight, when i came off it i got cysts and was in and out of hospital for a month with them. i was recommended the contraceptive patch, works similar to the pill but better. u stick one on you for a week then change it, if you are sick or have a upset tummy it doesnt effect it as it goes straight into your blood stream.

Are you referring to the depo injection? I use it and love it - one injection every 12 weeks and never have to think about it except once every 12 weeks.
