I want to give him long grain and instant rice with some of his meals. He eats basically everything we eat. He is 10 mths old. He doesn't eat the jarred baby foods anymore.

I know sounds silly, but I was thinking of the choking factor, like him inhaling the rice grains or something! I guess I'm just being paranoid!

My daughter had normal rice from about 7 months, we started her on solids at about 4 months so by then she had got used to lumpy foods.
It's fine as long as you keep a close eye incase he chokes

Hi! That sounds like my boy when he was a baby. I started giving my son rice (but I cooked it soft and it became porridge) when he was about 8 months old. I would mix some carrots or leafy veg, plus minced beef or chicken. Basically, mix all these ingredients in rice and use lots of water so that the mixture turns into porridge. For first timers who can't really chew (not enough teeth to chew or jaws not strong enough yet), be sure to blender the porridge so it becomes pasty. If your child isn't keen on pasty food because it tastes baby-ish, then you can go straight for the porridge. However, be sure to boil it over at least two hours under slow flame so that the essence from the veg and meat will be soaked into the porridge and it'll taste nicer for your child.

If he's already eating other foods, start out by mixing the rice into something to keep it slippery (like mashed carrots). I went a fun route with my daughter and put dry rice into a food processor, blended until a powder, and cooked it into her smashed foods to thicken them up! Because it's a rice powder, it cooks in under 2 minutes.

My 9 month old eats rice all the time. He has 6 teeth. Don't sweat it.

If he already eats everything that you eat then why is there a problem with rice? As long as he can chew it or you mash it, it should be fine.

Just be careful. Rice can stick very easily in their throats, even for an experienced eater!

he is old enough for baby rice. I've read that whenever your child seems interested in table food, let him try it. don't force it on him if he doesn't like it. If you are breastfeeding, he is getting what he needs. You can also not give anything but breastmilk for at least 6 months.
