By definition of a superhero, Im looking for someone with super powers, that beyond the natural... we are so modest as Brits!James Bond, Lara Croft, all great examples but who has super powers! Granted DangerMouse is super for a mouse but does he have 'super powers'. Being British, being modest, have we dared to invent a hero with powers beyond what is considered mortal?

There are a fair number of X-Men characters who are British, although not all of them are "good guys," and not all of them are English. People have already mentioned Captain Britain and Psylocke. There's also the Scottish Banshee and his daughter Siren. Also Juggernaut, Black Tom Cassidy, Proteus are British super-powered villains. And there's the goblin princess Meggan, who officially a British citizen. ...Basically, there's an entire team of Brits (or ex-pat superheroes living in Britain) called Excalibur.

As for the greatest, I would go with Captain Britain. I think some of the villains are more interesting characters and are probably more powerful, but they can't really be called "superheroes."

Marvelman (published Stateside as Miracleman.) Even if he was a warmed over copy of Captain Marvel, what they did with him in the 90’s was just so superior. Was it a dream? A Hoax? An imaginary tale? Yes, to all three! And he was STILL greater than his origin. Get hold of the stories, you will be glad you did. IMHO, he ranks up there with Judge Dredd, Zenith, and Strontium Dog (and that is high praise indeed.)

Although Captain Britain is the obvious choice, what with being super strong, nigh on invulnerable and capable of flight, you have to give props to "V" from V for Vendetta, just for being cool.

However, I'm afraid my vote goes to either Miracle Man (The Warrior and Eclipse version) for best hero or Tank Girl for best heroine. End of.
